Brushed parquet, details, and combinations
Choosing parquet as the floor of your home is only a first step. Next, you need to identify the processing that gives the wood your desired effect. And there are many types of processing, all different both in technical terms and in terms of the results they imprint on the material. In short, the workmanship is undoubtedly a choice not to be underestimated because it will have an important impact on the overall style and aesthetics of your home. Parquet flooring should indeed blend well with the furnishings, in terms of colour and design, to create a coherent atmosphere, a home with a unified style. Among the possible processes, one of the most popular is certainly brushing. Brushed parquet is a top-quality, timeless floor that adds a touch of luxury to the overall ambience and is unrivalled in terms of functionality. Let’s find out more.
What is brushed parquet?
Brushed parquet is a type of parquet treated with a special brushing technique that creates a homogeneous surface in which the wood grains are emphasised and draw more or less deep geometries. The final appearance is that of a natural yet elegant floor that maintains a deep connection with the authenticity of the material. The brushing process creates on each plank an original and unrepeatable texture with a lived-in effect and a colour variation that cannot be achieved otherwise. Our master craftsmen use special brushes to remove the softer fibres of the wood, leaving the harder surface uncovered. The result is that brushed parquet is perfectly suited to every type of interior, from the most rustic to the most modern. In fact, this type of floor is also increasingly popular for enhancing more modern, minimalist-style environments, where rougher workmanship adds value to the home rather than detracting from it, and where every imperfection becomes an asset to emphasise rather than hide.
Therefore, when it comes to choosing the right brushed parquet for your home, it is important to consider various factors: the colour, the material, the overall appearance and the desired atmosphere, and style of the home. The great highlight of brushed wood flooring is its versatility: this is a passepartout workmanship, and is suitable for both light and dark colours, thus adapting to every type of décor.
Brushed oak: the timeless, classic parquet typical of country-style
When considering brushed parquet, one almost immediately thinks of the classic oak variant. This wood in fact lends itself to the brushing process perfectly. The brush processes and the grains emerge naturally, tracing one after another in interplays of lines and geometries of refined beauty. Brushed oak parquet flooring therefore has a truly stunning aesthetic effect and is perfectly suited to country-style, natural, unfinished rooms such as old farmhouses or historic residences. These are the contexts in which the warm, sand-coloured or even darker tone of wood lends a very natural feel to the ambience.
Choosing the right colour of parquet makes the room free of clashes, an expression of a unique stylistic expression. And in the case of a place with a very rustic soul, oak, in its warmest shades, goes perfectly with all those typical elements like visible bricks and stones, high ceilings with wooden beams, light and neutral-coloured walls and natural wooden furniture.
Villa Magnolia: brushed parquet to enhance a modern space
We now see an original and, if you like, less ‘classic’ use of brushed parquet. This was a challenge we took up because it was very ambitious. The Villa Magnolia project was a daring one, with the aim of shaping a bright environment, with natural light as the main feature, obtained through very large windows. The natural landscape outside the windows is the perfect backdrop for a modern space, and the common thread running through the house is definitely a palette dominated by light colours that complement the stylistic choices of furnishings in great harmony. The objective was to identify a floor that would contribute to giving continuity of style to the furnishing elements, adding a touch of elegance and sobriety to each room. The choice fell on a brushed parquet from the London my Life collection. The homage to the English capital is translated into a palette of cool greys that is perfectly suited to a modern style, as modern as London is. So we chose the colour Harrow, a light grey with powdery shades. The floor then took shape with the classic floorboard layout. The result is a minimalistic parquet floor, which blends perfectly with the furnishings of the house, blending with the colour palette and enhancing the reference to the natural world in which the house is immersed. Everything is in harmony at Villa Magnolia.
Read the article, parquet or tiles: which floor to choose?
To sum up, brushed parquet is a valuable floor, which contains within itself all the naturalness, the materiality of wood and at the same time tells the story of craftsmanship, made up of work, tradition, and manual skill. It is a parquet that is perfectly suited to a country style, but also to modern contexts. To get the most out of this floor, it is necessary to choose it by paying special attention to the colour, the type of wood, the details of the workmanship, the varnish or oiling. Having done this, the result is a home with style and personality, where the floor is the protagonist, without being overwhelming.
